Oakville Poetry Alliance
The Oakville Poetry Alliance (OPA) is an umbrella organization set up to provide poets and lovers of poetry with a one-stop clearinghouse for information about poetry groups, readings, workshops and special poetry events happening in Oakville and nearby regions including Burlington, Hamilton and parts of Mississauga.
We help poetry groups within Oakville publicize their activities through a listing on this website and promote their interests through OPA’s membership in the Oakville Arts Council (OAC). A group with membership in OPA can promote their events to the community through the OAC’s website and newspaper advertisements and as inserts in OAC’s newspaper ‘Arts About Town’.
This poem was given to this site by Elka Ruth Enola:
The Stuff of Poetry
With religious finality
she declared
“Garbage cans are not the stuff of poetry,”
Not seeing
bent tin in wonder of shadow and light
the bread they groped for in the thirties
a child’s doll
torn nylons
a half pizza
Left overs of a too full civilization
The stuff of poetry
