It began as Music and Art Shared Space -- A volunteer organization advocating for an arts centre for not-for profit groups in Oakville. Today, that initial vision has expanded, reaching out into the extended Oakville community. Renamed CommUnity Arts Space, the project has a refined mandate and broader support base, to further the support and advocacy for a physical space for the community with specific provisions for arts and music groups.
The group was formed in response to the challenge faced by arts, music, and craft groups in finding appropriate space to rehearse and perform. Through thorough research and surveys the idea of a shared space with designated rooms for individual lessons, rehearsal spaces for large choirs and orchestras with sound proofing and acoustic qualities, special flooring for dance groups, appropriate lighting for the display of paintings and photography, and storage facilities and specialized equipment rooms, emerged. The interested groups reached consensus on a vision for a facility that would attract and accommodate the creative and artistic communities of the Town. The building will bring about a cross-pollination of the varied disciplines and interests that will catalyze the growth of the creative energies of the community.
